What does a day in the life of a corrosion science technician look like?
A typical day starts with customer enquiries by phone or email and booking in samples for corrosion testing. These samples are assessed, to understand the type of test needed. Testing could take place in our salt spray or humidity chambers, ovens, water baths or freeze units. The samples are tested to the customer’s requirements, and I take photographs to track the progress of the samples during the test. When the test is finished, I prepare the test report and include all photography for the customer.
What is the strangest or most interesting thing that you have had to test?
I had an enquiry once to carry out a spotting test on a wooden toilet seat for a commercial luxury yacht. Droplets of a urea test solution were dripped at intervals on the wooden toilet seat and brass hinges.
