“Products that have not been tested through every crucial stage of development. As a product is manufactured and exposed to different processes such as forging or heat treatment, the integrity and structure of the material changes. A finished product will perform differently to the raw material is it made from, so to not test a product during these crucial steps could lead to inaccurate test results and unreliable samples.”
Carl Merrix, Head of Mechanical Testing
We offer a wide range of testing services, consultancy, and advice for our customers throughout the whole process of their testing journey, from testing raw materials and early-stage development samples, to finished products ready for market.
Our team of mechanical technologists perform yield or proof load testing on full sized, finished fasteners to help customers understand the maximum stress that the finished fastener can withstand before failure. This is crucial to understand the behaviour of the sample in real-service conditions.
The yield stage is important for engineers and designers to understand what is the maximum force to which a sample can be subjected before it is irreversibly damaged. Tensile tests are also conducted on full size finished fasteners to determine their behavior under stresses after manufacturing, as the manufacturing process itself can induce defects, stress raisers and compromise the strength of the component. Full size testing gives our customers confidence of a quality product in its finished form.
