Gary was invited to a naming ceremony and service dedication of the lifeboat D-794 Duggie Rodbard 2 at Walmer Lifeboat Station in Kent on Sunday 2nd October 2016 and in return he had a whip around the team to raise donations for the charity, who solely relies on donations and volunteers to help the organisation run. This raised a generous £125 from the Rotech staff which was then matched by our parent company Rubery Owen making the total £250.
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They provide an on-call 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland as well as a seasonal lifeguard service. With their lifeboats, lifeguards, safety advice and flood rescue, they are committed to saving lives.
Founded in 1824, the RNLI has a long and fascinating lifesaving history. The Walmer station was established in 1856 and guards the southern half of the Goodwin sands and downs. The Walmer lifeboat was one of 19 lifeboats that took part in the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk. Celebrating nearly 150 years of saving lives at sea, Walmer lifeboat crews have been presented with over 25 awards for gallantry.
Thank you to everyone who donated, and also a big thank you to the RNLI and their volunteers for all the work they do.
